Already one of the driest places on Earth, Chile’s northern Coquimbo region is prone to droughts. Without irrigation from dams, which capture snowmelt from the mountains, this landscape could not support much vegetation.

In 2012 I traveled to four Indian states to interview farmers on how they cope with droughts, floods and other climate-​related impacts.
